VeriMe and Signals partner on next-gen identity proofing for researchers
Signals and VeriMe are pleased to announce that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, agreeing to partner on developing requirements for a next-generation method of identity-proofing.
VeriMe Cooperative was founded to provide a researcher-centered and privacy-first approach to identity verification. Signals helps researchers and publishers understand the credibility of research by delivering transparent and dynamic, article-level evaluations. At our core, both of our organizations are working to increase trust in research and scholarly communications.
To support these goals, Signals and VeriMe are working together to develop use cases relevant to our shared stakeholder communities, including defining appropriate cross-platform workflows for identity verification services. Our goal is to have VeriMe services implemented in Signals workflows in time for our launch in October 2025.
Signals co-founder, Elliott Lumb explained, “Publishers are increasingly recognising the need for author verification to ensure a trustworthy scholarly record. With recent cases of fake authorship, it’s essential that researchers can protect their identities and reputations. We’re excited to partner with VeriMe to enable author verification seamlessly within publisher and researcher workflows.”
“Signals is doing needed work to help curate integrity of the research ecosystem,” said VeriMe co-founder Chris Phillips. “VeriMe is a great companion in that effort to amplify the human aspect of the equation and offer a more robust result where we can.”
